The duration of therapy varies greatly from person to person depending on their needs, goals, and progress. We can work together to create a plan, and then discuss and adjust the expected length of therapy as needed.
During our first few sessions, we'll get to lay a foundation for our time together, mapping out your current situation, struggles, and goals, and working together to make a treatment plan that feels right for you. From there, we will work towards your goals using a combination of evidenced-based treatment practices, and revisit our treatment plan as you make progress.
My training and skillset allows me to work with clients in a variety of ways. I love to provide couples therapy and family therapy to improve relationships with each other, work on communication skills, resolve conflict, or to process shared trauma. I also work with adolescents around the age of 14 and older, but this is flexible depending on your child's needs, goals, and strengths.
“Resonate” speaks to the universal nature of the wounds and desires that bring each of us to therapy- our shared needs for safety, relationship, significance, and so on create the hunger for wholeness that moves us to seek support. On some level, we are all resonating on the same wavelength in our quest for healing from life’s wounds and scars and in our pursuit of a full and free life.
Resonance also reflects the mechanism of empathy. Just as waves can vibrate on matching frequencies, the act of compassion occurs when a counselor and client can connect over shared emotions, even if their life experiences are completely different. Empathy is an indispensable part of healing, as it leaves us feeling seen, validated, and undeniably far from alone.
Lastly, resonance mimics the effects of trauma on the body and mind. After traumatic experiences, triggering stimuli can cause the brain to react with survival skills similar to whatever was necessary to survive one’s initial trauma. This would be useful if we found ourselves in the same exact situation, but most of the time, our brain is overreacting to neutral or safe stimuli that are not as threatening as those which originally harmed us. Therapeutic processes allow for our minds and bodies to try out resonating on new frequencies and enable us to live with more flexibility, peace, and satisfaction.
